Canada is turning 150 years old in 2017 and Innisfil is celebrating with an incredible community art project. Our Town has been invited, along with 149 communities across the country to join the Canada 150 Mosaic, a nation-wide mosaic mural made of over 80,000 individual paintings. Check out more on the project here: http://canada150mosaic.com/

Hundreds of community members will work together to bring the mural to life by painting individual mosaic tiles. The completed art work will be displayed in a variety of locations across the community; celebrating our place in Canada, our past and our future.

Background of the Project

The Town of Innisfil has joined the Canada 150 Mural Mosaic project initiated by artist Lewis Lavoie. The project goal is to represent Canada‚Äôs cultural mosaic by creating a mural including all provinces and territories, over 80,000 paintings and 150 individual murals that when united will form one gigantic mural mosaic. If ever connected, this mammoth community art would be over 365 meters wide (4 football fields) x 2.5 meters high (8 feet). Each province and territory will have only a select numbers of communities participating and Innisfil is pleased to be a part of the project!

The overall theme of the 150 murals being completed across the nation is a Canada 150 train. Each mural will have a basic track and wheels design with each community designing their own panel to represent its uniqueness.

In August and September professional and amateur artists of Innisfil were invited to submit a design proposal. We have received some wonderfully creative submissions. A jury of community members have chosen a successful design for the Mural Mosaic Project. Artists from the project have manipulated the design to fit within the broader 150 Train theme but will maintain the integrity of the design concept.
